"Rowdy" Roddy Piper

Just when you have all the answers, he changes the questions! The term "legend" is often overused. The man we are going to talk about here isn't just a legend but an icon. We of course are talking about none other than "Rowdy" Roddy Piper!

Trying to summarize Piper's career here would be futile. However, Roddy's talent for inciting the crowd would get him noticed early on. In the late 70's while working in the California area he would continually insult the area's Mexican community. He promised to make amends by playing the Mexican national anthem on his bagpipes, but In typical "Rowdy" fashion he would anger the fans further by playing "La Cucaracha" instead, causing a full-fledged riot.

Roddy exploded onto the scene in the early 1980's. He would become a top villain in areas like the Mid-Atlantic area and Georgia areas. It was in the Mid-Atlantic "The Rowdy One" would first interact with future hall of fame starts such as Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Sgt. Slaughter and many more. He would also hold top titles in the area such as the Mid-Atlantic title and United States title. Piper also showed he could be effective as babyface in this era coming to the aid of fellow commentator, the legendary Gordon Solie in Georgia and waging war with Greg Valentine which culminated in a brutal dog collar match at Starrcade '83. In 1984 Roddy made a move the the World Wrestling Federation and the rest was history. Becoming the top antagonist to champion Hulk Hogan, Piper would help usher in the "Rock "n Wrestling Connection" and become a household name!
